The Harper Creek Optimist Club had another successful year (number 40!) with our “Rocket Project”. Students in the Harper Creek Middle School started on the project in March, when students were provided with a kit to assemble their personal rocket. With assistance from teacher Andrea Fronsman and several members of our club providing assistance and encouragement, the students prepared their rocket for take-off. All the supplies were provided by the school and HCOC plus some of the materials were extra from previous years.
May 1st was launching day and each class went out and shot their rockets until all students had flown their own. After launching each student retrieved their rocket to take home and with additional supplies they can be launched again! The students enjoyed the experience and became knowledgeable about the science of “Rocketry”.
Our Club has been very fortunate to have long-time club member Dick Wagner chair the program since it’s initiation. Dick devoted countless hours towards the project and has been great working with the students, but this is his final year for chairing the project. Fortunately club member Jobie Gore and the Ganey family, who greatly assisted with the project this year, will step up to chair the project and keep it going for the upcoming years.
Below are pictures from “Launch Day” provided by Club Member Karen Ganey.
