The Harper Creek Clay Target Team consists of students enrolled at Harper Creek Community Schools in grades third through twelve. The team is sponsored by The Harper Creek Optimist Club along with several other organizations. The funds the team is given are used for entry fees at competitions throughout the state and nation and also to purchase clay targets as the students need them throughout the season. The team travels and competes in skeet, trap and sporting clays competitions against other school and club teams. The team began in 2013 and consistently has around forty students each season. Of the roughly forty students, about twenty are of high school age and the other twenty are junior high students. At competitions, the students compete against other student athletes of the same age. The season is a spring sport at Harper Creek schools, where the students are recognized as a Varsity Sport at the high school level. Multiple All-State awards are earned each year by students on the team Harper Creek team, and those awards are shown in Varisty Hall. Students from the Harper Creek team are also choosing to continue their education in college while also continuing their shooting sports careers.
